Websites We Love: Sweet Inspiration

This week, we asked the Vistaprint Internet Marketing Facebook community what the top benefit was to having a website, and we received a number of wonderful responses–and websites!

Although it was difficult to narrow to just one, this week’s winner is Border Cakes and Cupcakes, a website submitted by Nicola Scott. Read more…

Websites We Love: Capturing The Moment

Websites We Love: Capturing The Moment

This week, we received almost 200 Website We Love submissions…which made it very difficult to choose just one site to feature here on our blog, and on Facebook! We asked the Vistaprint Internet Marketing Facebook community why, in one word, they loved their website. This week’s Website We Love winner, Julie Pearson, said that her site, Julie Pearson Photography, was artistic. And we agree! Read more…

Websites We Love: A Unique Boutique

This week, we received a HUGE number of Website We Love entries! It was, as usual, very difficult to choose just one site to feature here on our blog, and on Facebook. We asked our Internet Marketing community on Facebook why we should choose their site as a Website We Love, and the responses were great–so were the websites! But, we had to select one. This week, Amarie’s Boutique comes out on top! Read more…

Websites We Love: Follow Your Passion

Websites We Love: Follow Your Passion

Earlier this week, we asked our Vistaprint Internet Marketing Facebook community what industry their small business was in, and why they started their website. We received so many inspiring responses, it was (as usual) very difficult to choose just one website to feature here on our blog, and on Facebook. Ultimately, we were impressed with Sharon-Denise Taylor’s website, Taylor Made HandSpun Yarns. The self-proclaimed “yarn queen” wrote about how she started her website to “build [her] new business selling and teaching spinning.” Read more…

Websites We Love: Keeping It Sweet

Websites We Love: Keeping It Sweet

Each week, we ask the Vistaprint Internet Marketing Facebook community to submit their websites so we can highlight one here on our blog, and also on our Facebook page. This week, we asked what one thing made their websites stand out from the rest. And the responses we received this week were, as usual, plentiful. With so many great websites, it’s always difficult for us to choose just one to feature for Websites We Love! Last week, a bakery for dogs won, and this week, a bakery for humans, Sweet Etcetera, takes the cake! Read more…

Websites We Love: Customer Resource

Selecting just one website to feature each week for Websites We Love is extremely difficult–and this week is no exception! As usual, we had a number of amazing websites to choose from! We asked our Vistaprint Internet Marketing community on Facebook the number one reason they loved their website. This week, our winning site comes from Rachel E-Photography, who commented that she loved her website because of the vast audience she gained by having one. According to her, it allows her to “reach more people than [she] ever [has].” Read more…

User Experience Fundamentals: Links

User Experience Fundamentals: Linking

This blog post was written by Dave Yuknat, Senior Lead Designer of Global User Experience at Vistaprint. This is the first in a series of blogs focused on User Experience that Dave is going to write for Micro Business Perspectives.

I have a poster at my desk I picked up while attending last year’s South By Southwest Interactive Conference, titled “The Secret Lives of Links.” The poster shows graphical notes from Jared Spool’s talk of the same name; Jared is a well-known User Experience (UX) expert who gives very entertaining talks. I have this at my desk because it reminds me to think about the basic web fundamentals. In the early days of the Internet, websites were simple and consisted of words, links and images. Today’s websites are a lot more complicated — they look better and do more stuff — but the core of the experience still boils down to words, links and images. Read more…

6 Easy Ways To Spice Up Your Website

6 Easy Ways To Spice Up Your Website

This is a post from Sara Nash; Sara earned her degree in Public Relations from Penn State University. From there, she worked a PR agency in Boston before joining the PR and Social Media team at Vistaprint.

We’ve mentioned how important it is to keep your content fresh, and earlier in the week, we provided you with a few places to look in your every day life for content inspiration. Now, we give you six MORE examples of how to make your website a bit more interesting, from using images to updating your design:

Images Are Key
When visitors first reach your page, great images are the perfect way to catch their eye. If you are a local restaurant, for instance, take some pictures of your most popular dishes that will get people rushing out their door and into yours. Tip: It’s very obvious when a picture is outdated, so update your pictures regularly. And if you own a storefront, pictures of the outside of your building will help new visitors find you on the street. Read more…

Small Business Tips: 3 Easy Ways to Update Your Content

Easy Ways to Create Content

We’ve already told you how to keep your content fresh, and why that’s important…but what about when you’ve seemingly run out of ideas on where to get that content? Where can you find some simple, possibly unexpected inspiration for website updates? Here are three easy places to look.

Your Calendar
If you’re looking for simple ways to keep your content fresh, one of the best areas to look is your day-to-day life. As a small business owner, it’s safe to assume your personal calendar is going to (very) closely resemble your business calendar, if not mimic it completely. Use this for inspiration. Whether it’s putting together a blog series to write about a new product you’re testing or updating your homepage to remind visitors about an upcoming event, taking a few moments to look at what you’re up to is a great way to remember what your small business is up to, too.
